I Hope Your Standing by the Ocean
Inspired by memories of my childhood on Grandmas beach
So here I stand again, at the edge of her ocean,
Watching the moon rise and waves crash reminds me of times once been.
My sleepy eyes fall closed,
Her white sails are leaving now, I wave goodbye,
Sleep well! Tomorrow is a new day.
A promenade piece set in the Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh. This interactive performance explores the use of creative therapy to improve mental health within children. The audience follows a trail through a series of rooms within the gallery, each room advocating a new type of creative therapy, and therefore, a new form of self expression.
Collaborating with the informatics department, the costume investigates the effects of light therapy on a child’s heat rate, in particular those suffering from anxiety and/or stress. The head pulses blue light through an intergrated light system. Each loop pulses at half a beat slower than the average resting heat rate. As children watch the light, their heart rate decreases, reducing symptoms of anxiety and stress.
